“I never stop drawing and painting, it is my life!” -Sitka

Sitka and his wife Hellaine had a beautiful life in New York but something in their hearts was telling them to trust their gut and follow their passions. He was very successful working in Textile Design at Ralph Lauren but knew that painting on canvas was his first love and would make him the happiest.

He is a contemporary impressionist who creates still life and landscape art filled with graceful line movements and bright colors infused with light. Every piece he paints comes from his heart, mind, body and soul. His subject matter comes from inspiration through his surroundings at the time including Boston, Cape Cod, New York, and Westchester County.

Sitka originally discovered his passion for drawing and painting through Islamic and European art in his home town in Mersin, Turkey. He began his artistic journey when he started to get trained in detailed, realistic drawing. Abstract drawing techniques were the next step in his journey at art school in Oxford, England. Before working in NYC, he received his Masters in museum research, textile print, and fashion illustration at Croydon School of Art and St. Martins School of Art in London.

The work shown in Sitka’s gallery represents the personal philosophy he currently lives by which is to seek to fill his world with all that is pure, clean, bright and filled with light. He uses no preparatory drawings before painting on canvas, using only his heart to guide him. His background as a precise draftsman is definitely a big help to this as well.

Drawing and painting is Sitka’s life, he never stops! We absolutely loved getting to meet Sitka and Hellaine, and could feel the passion for art in the air as soon as we walked into the gallery. Ask to see his 3D painting of Michael Phelps as a recommendation from Cam Chesley!
